JAGUARS will be on the roads of Bridgwater this week - but don't be alarmed, big cats have not escaped.

The Jaguar E-Type Club's 2018 Round Britain Coastal Drive, supporting Prostate Cancer UK, will be in the town on Friday (October 5).

The 4,000-mile tour around the circumference of the British mainland got underway on September 17 at Pendine Sands, Carmarthenshire, and aims to raise £70,000 for the cancer charity.

Drivers were set on their way by Don Wales, who set the UK speed record for an electric car in 2000 at 137 mph (touching 160 mph), and the world speed record for a ride-on lawnmower in 2010 at 87.8 mph.

“I am delighted to be part of this fabulous event and honoured to be flagging-off the entrants from Pendine Sands, where my grandfather set his first World Land Speed Record," he said.

"I was recently diagnosed with prostate cancer and have now been successfully treated. We need to get more men talking about this horrible disease.

"Events like this are vital as they help to raise awareness and valuable funds to stop prostate cancer being a killer.”

The Drive will leave the Combe House Hotel, in Holford, before finishing in Tenby, on the opposite side of Carmarthen Bay to Pendine, later on Friday.

James Beeby, director of fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “The Round Britain Costal Drive is a fantastic event. Currently one man dies every 45 minutes from prostate cancer but with support such as this we can fund vital research to stop more men from dying.”

The club was founded by Philip Porter and wife Julie in 2004.
