MORE speeding offences were recorded in the Avon and Somerset Police region than any other in England - including a driver who clocked up 168mph, new figures reveal.
Research from GoCompare reveals the Avon and Somerset force recorded 386,969 speeding offences between June 2016 and May 2018, more than double the next highest number recorded, of 143,052, by Bedfordshire Police.

Taking the highest number of recorded offences from June 2016 to May 2018 into account, Avon and Somerset was found to be the worst area for the highest number of speeding offences recorded in the area. The best is Cleveland Police, England, with a 5,754 offences overall.

Speed cameras play a big part in the high figure for Avon and Somerset, with eight out of the top 10 most active speed cameras in the area, recording 134,655 offences.

The highest recorded offence was in Merseyside, where a driver was clocked at 148mph in a 50mph zone.
In the Avon and Somerset area, the highest was a driver clocked doing 162mph in a 70mph zone.
