A CHARD man who was found to be nearly three times over the limit denied an allegation of drink driving when he appeared in court claiming it was a case of mistaken identity.

Christopher Evans, 33, of Wambrook Place, appeared in the dock before Somerset Magistrates at Yeovil charged with the allegation which is said to have taken place at Donyatt.

He pleaded not guilty to a charge that on July 30 he drove a Vauxhall Insignia vehicle on the A358 after consuming excess alcohol.

The charge detailed that when the defendant was breathalysed by police he produced a reading of 93mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg of alcohol.

He also denied a further offence of using the vehicle without insurance

Defending solicitor Ray Peters said that Evans denied being the driver of the vehicle at the time of the alleged offence.

A review of the case was conducted and the matter was adjourned until October 11 when the defendant was ordered to return to the court for a trial to take place.

Until then he was given unconditional bail.
