TWO Taunton Deane groups who work with children have netted more than £45,000 in new funding thanks to Children in Need.

The grants are part of the charity’s small grants programme and bring the total amount invested in Taunton Deane to more than £209,000.

Heathfield Community School’s summer camp programme has been awarded a three-year grant of £30,000 to support children and young people from areas of deprivation as they move from primary to secondary school.

Nicky Foster, camp leader at Heathfield, said: “The transition programme will offer disadvantaged children a smoother and calmer transition that will make them feel more confident as they begin the next chapter of their lives, ensuring the young people go on to reach their full potential for a successful and happy future.”

Elsewhere, Escape Support Group has been awarded a grant of £15,000 to provide activities for disabled children and young people, alongside their families at the Hub Club.

The club meets one Saturday a month and provides families with the opportunity to enjoy activities and spend quality time together while making new friends and sharing new experiences.

Sarah Phippen, team leader at Escape Support Group, said: “A huge thank you to BBC Children in Need for their support.

“There are lots of games and activities where families can simply switch off and have fun, something which makes an enormous difference.”
