IT'S the start of a new year for North Petherton Town Council as the mayor is re-elected and a fresh face joins.

The annual meeting of the council took place on last night (Monday, May 14) at Ferrydown House.

Cllr Alan Bradford was voted to continue in his role as mayor, while the deputy mayor will now be Luke Parchment, the youngest of the cllrs.

The former deputy mayor was Marion Denham.

Cllr Bradford said: "I would like to thank all of the members for their service over the last year.

"The role of all town councils will grow in the next few years.

"Thanks to everyone for the support I have had."

Cllr Bradford went on to explain some of the council's recent achievements.

Some of the council's proud moments surround village halls and playing fields.

He said the work all of the volunteers in the area are a "real credit to the community".

He highlighted that the work the council does with planning applications is important in deciding what the town wants, and how the council should be 'working with developers' rather than against.

A new member was also co-opted onto the council.

Bridgwater Mercury:

New councillor Richard Brown.

Richard Brown took his seat at the council last night after being voted in.

He said: "I have been a councillor previously, and I feel I can bring lots of knowledge and experience to the role.

"I appreciate the opportunity to take my skills forward to develop the community."

There is still one more seat open on the council for any resident that would like to be considered.
