AFTER years of planning, Sedgemoor District Council made a big move this week in 1988.

The council moved its Mount Street operations into the former Birmingham and Midshires building society offices at Bridgwater House, in King Square after spending more than £200,000 on renovations.

SDC chairman Des Roach officially opened the offices and said he had been waiting for the move for a decade.

"The Mount Street offices were far too hot in summer and far too cold in winter and I thank the staff who had to work there for their forebearance," he said.

"We promised we would move them as soon as we could - and today is that day."

It was hoped the better working conditions for staff would bring efficiency improvements.
