THE treacherous conditions are causing a lot of trouble on the roads this morning with two crashes reported as well as a number of roads affected by ice across the region.
The M5 is slow due a crash near J26 at Wellington on the southbound side this morning, meanwhile traffic to the north of Bridgwater is also moving slowly following a crash on Allerton Road.
Earlier this morning at 5.39am Bridgwater firefighters attended a crash on Huntworth Roundabout where two people were trapped after their car had left the road and landed in a ditch.
The first casualty was helped from the vehicle and walked to safety by the crew however the other person in the car had to extricated using a scoop stretcher.
The casualty was then taken to hospital.
There is also still a lot of snow and ice around affecting many roads including Ford Rd, Wellington; A39 Porlock Hill, A37 Kilver St; A371 Priestleigh Hill closed southbound. Significant drifting snow has been reported on higher ground such as the Blackdowns, Mendips and Exmoor.
A spokesman for Somerset Highways said: "It's a changing picture so please take extreme care if you must travel."
