BRIDGWATER boxer Dean Mills enjoyed a successful return to the ring with a comfortable points victory over Simas Volosinas in Bristol on Friday night.

Backed by around 60 supporters at the UWE Exhibition Centre, Mills made light of the fact he hadn’t fought in three years to take control of the bout from the start and seal his ninth professional win.

Reflecting on the fight, Mills said: “I boxed clever and was never in any trouble. I like pressure fighting and coming forward to attack, but I stuck to my gameplan and saw it out.

“In the first round I was just feeling my way into it, then I got into the groove and my jabs were sharp.

“He had to take a lot of body shots – about halfway in I heard him breathing heavily.

“It felt good to be back. It was good to get rounds under my belt – I would have been a bit gutted if it had been over in one or two rounds!”

Mills hopes his next bout will be in April and another relatively local show.
