IN this week's column Sedgemoor FM DJ Dave Englefield is gearing up for the Christmas lights switch-on.

The countdown to the Christmas lights switch on is well underway now, with the annual Snowflakes event taking place on Friday, November 24.

If you’re planning on coming along the fun starts from 4pm. Once again, Sedgemoor FM are hosting the stage on Cornhill and I’ll be down there along with some live music and much more.

We have singers Jason Pimm, Charlotte Zimmerman and Jamie B, along with the fabulous Somerset Songbirds plus appearances from the Somerset Sapphire Majorettes and the Fox King Dancers.

Father Christmas will also be arriving and helping with the lights switch on at 6pm. The focus then turns to the Town Bridge where there will be squibbing at 7pm.

Nick will be on hand along with Tim from Red Box to provide entertainment throughout as well. If you come down come over and say hi, it would be lovely to see you.

As I think I’ve mentioned before, we have a fabulous view out of our studio window looking over the canal and this morning there were a number of kayaks out on the water as part of one the daycamp classes that the YMCA hold. I’ve never kayaked or canoed and have never really wanted to.

I think it stems back to something that happened to me when I was much younger. A friend of mine was off out fishing in a small boat and invited me along.

I have never got into fishing. I appreciate that many people derive a great deal of pleasure from fishing, it’s just not my thing.

However, this particular day I agreed to go along, we duly set off and once we’d arrived at the spot where he wanted to fish he got everything ready. Unfortunately when he went to cast off he managed to get the hook embedded in my hand. I’ve never been fishing or on a small boat since.

You can hear Dave Englefield on the breakfast show on 104.2 Sedgemoor FM weekdays from 6am-10am
