TAMLYNS’ Collectors sale on the August 16, will include an amazing dolls house, fully furnished and with accompanying history.

The house is really a ‘miniature’ of The White Cottage, home to Howard and Marion Springs in Falmouth. Howard Springs was a successful author perhaps best known for ‘Fame is the Spur’ and ‘My Son! My Son!’ Marion constructed the house with help from her gardener/handyman and a cabinet maker in the home counties; many of the furniture and furnishings she made herself.

The scale is 1 inch – 1 foot so the house is reasonably large, and the furniture is all copied from items that were in the original White Cottage. Marion also acquired decorative pieces to add to the overall effect. She had a small silver tea set and candlesticks made by friends; these were sent to London for assaying and now have pride of place on a small tortoiseshell low table made by Marion from an old Victorian card case.

The house is ‘wired’ for electricity; all the rooms had overhead lights and because the rooms are deep, each has a standard lamp – all with shades that match the general furnishings.

There is a copy of a booklet ‘Memories and Gardens’ by Marion Spring, which fully describes how she constructed and furnished the house in one chapter.

This is a totally unique item and a glimpse into a ‘real’ home – this house was really lived in, the furniture was part of that and you can feel the love and dedication that went into making it when setting out all the rooms.

Also included is the original stand for the house which brings it up to eye level - no tiring bending down! This also supports the old wiring and light controls.

The house will be sold with all contents and is estimated to make £300 to £500.
