In this week's column DJ Dave Englefield from Sedgemoor FM ponders that feeling when you look at a word too long and it stops making sense.

Have you ever looked at something quickly and misread it?

The reason for asking is that I was watching a sporting event recently and one of the advertising boards around the edge of the ground read 'International Gash Eating' which I couldn’t understand as it made no sense to me whatsoever.

I even asked Mrs Dave and pointed it out to her on screen at which point it dawned on me that it actually said 'International Gas Heating'.

Yes I know, I should have gone to….. (other opticians are available). The other thing that occasionally happens is I’ll be reading a book and I’ll look at a word and decide that it looks wrong.

I know that it has been spelled correctly but for some reason it just looks odd. Have you ever had that or is it just me?

Now that we’re into March you can almost feel spring approaching. The mornings are getting lighter, the temperatures are a little more comfortable and it’s a bit closer to my birthday.

Not that I really take much notice of them these days. You can pretty much guarantee that the one day of the year when I can never remember the date is on my birthday, no idea why though.

Anyway, back to the spring bit and it also seems to affect people’s general frames of mind too. I think we all feel a little bit better in ourselves for a few months from around now. Long may it last.
