A PARKOUR coach from Bridgwater appeared on ITV's Ninja Warrior UK.

Jacob Peregrine-Wheller, who teaches classes on free running at the Quayside gymnasium was on Saturday night's episode at 7pm.

The hit TV show attracts 3-4 million viewers each week and features contestants taking on one of the hardest obstacle courses on TV.

Jacob teaches parkour/freerunning full-time, having established his company 'West Coast Parkour' in Bridgwater back in 2009.

His weekly classes run on Thursdays at Quayside gymnasium and he'll be leading a parkour/freerunning fun day on Friday, February 17, between noon-4pm.

Parkour made headlines all across the country on Tuesday, January 10 when it became an official recognized sport, the first sport to reach this level in over 30 years. The sport is also known as a discipline and an art form.

Jacob says "Parkour is known for its philosophy. It's a mind-set for life.

"You learn to embrace what is difficult, and find a way to overcome the challenge.

"Participants learn that there is always a way to move forwards, which comes out through running jumping and climbing whilst training, but the mindset is adapted to every day life.

"As well as a physical sport, it develops strong mental health".
