THE fundraising appeal to help a family left homeless after a fire gutted their house in Highbridge, has so far raised more than £4,000.

Rosie and Paul Clements, and their three children Lily-Rose, Shae and Ruby, lost their home, whippet dog and bearded dragon in the blaze in Burnham Road on July 27.

An appeal was immediately launched by kind hearted residents, asking for donations and funds.

Haven holiday park in Burnham stepped in and gave the family temporary accommodation, and various people are offering support.

Bridgwater Mercury:

Rosie, a teacher at Churchfield Primary School, said: "We're getting on ok- still astounded by the support we've received.

"The council are unable to help us with accommodation due to fact we both work and have no ID to prove who we are.

"We may be able to stay in a friend's mother's bungalow as sadly she is unwell so it is empty, so we are nomadic for the next three weeks or so then hopefully move into something longer term.

"No word from fire brigade about cause of fire.

"No word from insurance company as to whether we're covered."

Rosie also posted a message onto the appeal's Facebook page.

Bridgwater Mercury:

She wrote: "Firstly please remember that my neighbours, two lovely people, have also been forced out of their home by this as well.

"I won't post names as not sure how they'd feel about that but perhaps somebody in touch with them could see if they need anything.

"We are in Haven static, after which friends have kindly given us spaces to live for the next two weeks.

"We have a holiday booked and after that I'm not sure.

"The continued support and love shown by the community make me feel absolutely humbled- so many people actively pulling together to enable us to feel there is light at the end of the tunnel.

"Please forgive me if I've missed posts and not thanked people personally-my head is all over the place.

"So, many thanks to you all.

"You have all made such a difference with your positivity and love."

Bridgwater Mercury:

Daughter Lily added: " I would just like to say one big thank you to everyone who has got involved and helped us.

"I didn't know what we were going to do but with all of you I know we will get through it."

The campaign, Help For Rosie Clements, has been set up and items can be dropped off at 16 Caxton Road and 20 West Avenue, Highbridge.

The fire service were called just before 2:50pm on July 27 in Burnham Road, to reports of flames being seen from an upstairs window and a large volume of smoke.
