A SELF-described ‘Bridgwater boy’ has been welcomed as the town’s new mayor, calling it a “massive honour”.
Dignitaries, friends and family watched as the former firefighter Leigh Redman was donned the chains of office in at a ceremony in St Mary’s Church.
The Mayoral chains were handed over by cllr Dave Loveridge who was Mayor 2013/14, before the Mayor and Mayoress attended a reception.
Mr Redman said: “I’m overwhelmed by the fact that I was nominated. I’m a Bridgwater boy and I never dreamed that I would be mayor. It’s a great opportunity to represent Bridgwater.”
