HEAD injuries and sprained ankles are two of the most common Christmas injuries according to the St John Ambulance.
Burns, cuts and drinking too much alcohol also make the top festive five ailments clogging up accident and emergency departments during the festive season.
St John Ambulance has launched a #SaveSanta campaign to help people avoid spending Christmas in casualty.
Volunteers will be at various events to ensure that anyone who needs first aid gets it quickly.
The charity’s team will be the first point of call for anyone who suffers an injury, falls ill, or finds themselves overwhelmed by the festive spirit.
“It’s all about working together for a safer celebration,’ said St John Ambulance’s regional events manager, Des Young.
