ONE of Bridgwater’s proudest glasses wearers was honoured as he took a step closer to winning the Spectacle Wearer of the Year Award, with a prize of £10,000 and a luxury holiday.
Andrew Winn, 30, was chosen from hundreds of people from across the South-West who entered the contest run by Specsavers opticians.
The awards were launched by Girls Aloud singer Kimberley Walsh earlier this year, who Andrew could meet at the awards ceremony if he triumphs in his age category.
The awards will be handed out on October 7 at a ceremony in London and winners from all four age categories will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in spec wearing with the £10,000 cash and a trip to the Bahamas.
Andrew said: “I was never expecting to become a finalist for Spectacle Wearer of the Year; it’s come as a lovely surprise.
“I tweeted a picture of my new glasses on Twitter and someone commented saying that I should enter the competition. We had a power cut at work so, with nothing else to do, I entered.
“The team at Bridgwater Specsavers were very helpful in making sure my glasses fit perfectly.”
