BRIDGWATER College student Chris Tipple claimed first prize in the Make, Create, Cultivate exhibition, held at the Court House Gallery in Somerton.
Chris, who studies the Level 3 Furniture Design and Manufacture course, picked up a £300 cash prize, sponsored by Somerset Art Weeks, at the awards ceremony.
He made an English cherry and walnut blanket chest and was presented with the People’s Choice award by local furniture maker and competition judge, Tom Kealy.
Chris said: “I am absolutely over the moon to have won, I feel the successful completion of the course at college and competitions such as this one are life changing steps towards a new career.
“I place enormous value on the comments made by the judges and will carry their advice forward as an influence on my future designs.”
Steve Hopper, programme manager for furniture, said: “It’s a fantastic achievement for Chris to win this competition; it was a combination of his unique design skills and attention to detail that made him the overall winner.”
