ONE of Britain's best loved playwrights will present his epic-award winning study of erratic royalty in Colwyn Bay and Prestatyn next month.

Screened from the Nottingham Playhouse in its first ever broadcast, NT Live's The Madness of George III will be at The Scala on Tuesday, November 20 and Theatr Colwyn on Tuesday, December 4 at 7pm.

Written by The History Boy and The Lady in the Van scribe Alan Bennett, this incredible play was also adapted into a BAFTA Award-winning film following its premiere on stage in 1991.

Venture back to 1786, where despite being the most powerful man in the world King George III is succumbing to fits of lunacy.

With the King’s mind unravelling at a dramatic pace, ambitious politicians and the scheming Prince of Wales threaten to undermine the power of the Crown, and expose the fine line between a King and a man.

Taking on the title role is Olivier award winning writer, creator and actor of The League of Gentleman Mark Gatiss, who may be more familiar from less cult-y affairs such as Game of Thrones, Wolf Hall and BBCs Sherlock.

Tickets for Theatr Colwyn are £12, with concessions available, to book visit theatrcolwyn.co.uk or call 01492 577888.
