AN organisation set up to promote Somerset has reached a milestone in its bid to bring employers to the county.

Inward investment body Into Somerset has says it has handled 50 serious enquiries from entrepreneurs wanting to relocate to Somerset – with half coming in the last few months.

Of the 50 business people, 10 have already invested in Somerset or have made the commitment to relocate to the county.

Into Somerset’s new inward investment manager, Gerard Tucker, said: “Many entrepreneurs, especially from in and around London, are looking to escape the rat race. In Somerset they find a place they can grow their business and enjoy a better quality of life.

“My aim and ambition is to promote the benefits of doing business in Somerset and provide practical assistance to anyone wishing to relocate here and expand their business.”

Gerard has lived and worked in Somerset all his life, including a role as an Economic Development Team Leader.

He added: “Into Somerset provides companies with all the information and introductions they need to assist in their relocation and business investment. We work to find the best place for businesses to thrive, as well as guiding them to the most appropriate places to live.”

Robert Clark of Somerset estate agent Greenslade Taylor Hunt, said: “Gerard Tucker and the Into Somerset team, with backing from the county and district councils, have a wealth of knowledge and experience that is invaluable to businesses considering opening up in the county.

“Many of Somerset's commercial property agents recognise the important service that Into Somerset provides.”

Into Somerset is working with the South West Regional Development Agency to look into the possibility of providing extra help for foreign businesses, such as rent-free initial periods, guidance on planning regulations and more help with language interpretation.
