A SCINTILLATING selection of Oriental ceramics and works of art were among the highlights at Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s April antiques sale.

This well viewed section contributed nearly £15,000 to the sale’s takings.

Top lot was a Chinese porcelain vase, which set the internet abuzz as bidding at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, opened at a robust £600.

The vase featured enamelled decoration of a procession of figures and a man flying on a crane. There was some damage to the base of the baluster form vase, but this did not deter spirited bidding with the battle online to claim the piece.

One of the internet bidders won the day and paid £9,525 for the item – the top price at the auction.

Another porcelain vase of baluster form was also a hit with would-be buyers and the price shot up to £1,300 as potential buyers jostled for ownership.

This large Chinese porcelain vase with flared rim, enamelled decoration of children engaged in lion and dragon dances, playing with kites and musical instruments, above a stylised border to the base, stood at 45cms high. There was an underglaze blue double circle mark to the base. An online bidder paid £1,850.

Another highlight was a Chinese needlework panel from the 19th Century. This was worked in gold and silver wire, decorated with a central stylised Dog of Fo and beadwork red sun within scrolling patterns and borders. This fetched £1,000.

A large pair of Chinese porcelain vases, which had come from a deceased estate, were also well received by salegoers.

Decorated in the Famille Rose palette with a pair of peacocks and birds amongst blossoming branches these sold for £925.

A large Chinese Sang De Bouef glazed vase together with a pair of Chinese vases, a Cadogan teapot and another vase went to an online bidder, who paid £800.

The auctioneers are now receiving items for the next sale, which takes place on Thursday, May 3. For more information please contact the saleroom on 01823 332525.
