WHILE away a few hours of the Easter break with a visit to Greenslade Taylor Hunt’s antiques saleroom in Taunton on Saturday, March 31.

The auctioneers will be showcasing the Spring Sporting Sale and the April antiques sale at The Octagon Salerooms, East Reach, Taunton, from 9am-12.30pm.

There are further chances to view both sales on Tuesday, April 3, and Wednesday, April 4, from 9am-5pm.

As ever there is a vast array of items to appeal to a wide range of tastes and pockets.

Among the more unusual items is a group of 26 18th Century Dutch Delft tiles each with underglaze blue painted decoration of various named biblical events, within foliate corners. Collectively they are guided at £300-£500.

In the furniture section there is a Maple & Co bedroom suite with painted and gilt decoration in the French taste. This comprises a breakfront mirror door wardrobe with swan neck pediment fitted with three drawers to base, marble top washstand

with floral painted splashback, dressing table and upholstered chair. It has a pre-sale estimate of £400-£600.

Another likely highlight is a late Victorian silver oval two-handled tray by well-regarded maker Elkington & Co, Birmingham.  It weighs a substantial 3215g and comes in its original fitted wooden case. It has a pre-sale guide of £800-£1,000.

The antiques sale will commence at 10am on Thursday, April 5. Afterwards the Spring Sporting Sale will take place.
