A LARGE pair of late 19th Century red glass hanging lamps reputed to have hung outside a brothel in Southampton, are to be sold this Wednesday, July 26, at Tamlyns in Bridgwater.

Both lamps have their original burners and are in good, original condition – whether they ever did act as the traditional ‘beacon’ to a house of ill repute auctioneer Claire Rawle is not sure, but they are still very decorative, and if the story troubled you then perhaps they could have been used as port lights from a ship!

Next week’s antiques sale will also include gold and silver jewellery, gem-set rings and brooches, gold coins, pocket and wrist watches – also sections of silver, ceramics, glass, paintings, furniture, clocks, metalware and all manner of decorative and unusual objects.

The sale catalogue can be found online at www.the-saleroom.com or www.tamlynsprofessional.com with images and estimates for all lots. Viewing is today (Tuesday, July 25) from 9am until 5pm and morning of sale which is tomorrow (Wednesay, July 26), with the sale starting at 10am.
