A look into Petherton's past

6:11pm Wednesday 20th May 2009

MERCURY reader Dave Williams sent in pictures of North Petherton in the early part of the 20th century - and wonders if anyone will recognise a friendly face.

The pictures were taken by Dave's uncle, Samuel Williams, who was a photographer based in North Petherton.

One of the snaps show an old cricket team lining up in the village.

Is this the village's first XI? Do you recognise any of the players?

Then, there are pictures of a family in Victorian dress, the village church and a man sitting in a field.

Dave told the Mercury: “I wondered if anyone would recognise any of their friends or relatives - there must be some people whose relatives were in the old cricket team.

“I would say they are taken from around 1910 to 1925.”

Anyone that wants to know more about the old snaps can contact Dave by calling 01278-683022.
