READERS of the Bridgwater Mercury have once again been rummaging through drawers, old shoeboxes and files to uncover fascinating snapshots of Bridgwater's history.
Geoffrey Wellens, who lives in Manchester, has provided us with photos from the early 20th Century and would like to find out if anyone remembers the woman in the picture.
Pictured with a baby in one of the photos is his “Granny Stone”, who he thinks lived on Ship Lane opposite a house named Riverside, which belonged to his other grandmother, whose surname was Norman.
He would like to establish if the woman pictured is his great-grandmother and if anyone living in the area remembers Granny Stone or her descendants.
The second photo is of a presentation made to Mary Somers, a former district nurse from Cannington in the late 19th Century.
Mr Wellens said: “I am hoping to visit Bridgwater from Manchester to try and gain further information about the Norman, Hunt, Stone, Manchip and Somer families and I would love to meet up with anyone who can help me.”
Are you able to help Geoffrey with information on the people pictured in the photographs? Or if you have your own memories you would like to share, send them to Mercury Memories, Bridgwater Mercury,Royal Clarence House, York Buildings, High Street, Bridgwater, Somerset, TA6 3AT or e-mail newsdesk@bridgwatermercury.co.uk
