THIS WEEK: Lance Duddridge, the owner of the Cornhill Green Grocery, which has just opened another store in Parkway.

Lance was born in Bridgwater and attended Robert Blake School before studying history, law and English literature at Bridgwater College.

He took over the Cornhill Green Grocery business, located in the Cornhill Market, in 1998 and has seen it grow to the point where he has opened another store in Parkway.

Lance is a strong supporter of local charities, including the Special Needs Activity Project based at the Rollercoaster centre, and was once a sponsor of the Bridgwater Carnival.

He also once stood as a local council candidate and is a member of the local Conservative club.

What is the best and worst thing about the place you live in?

“I would say the best thing about the place is the people. They are friendly and have a good sense of humour. The worst is seeing things around the town that need doing but know they never get done.”

What is the best and worst thing about your job?

“The best thing about my job is meeting loads of really nice people and making lots of new friends through it. The worst is having to work long hours some days.”

What was your ambition as a child?

”My ambition was to be an author or a journalist. I always had a passion for writing when I was younger.”

What has been your greatest achievement?

“My greatest achievement has to be nursing my parents through ill health.”

What characteristic do you dislike most in others and in yourself?

“In others, it has to be two-facedness. In myself, I hate how I can be short tempered sometimes.”

What is your biggest fear?

“I fear becoming bed-ridden in the future.”

When and where were you happiest?

“It would have to be when I was studying in college. History, English and law always kept me interested and they still do today.”

What three items would you take to a desert island?

“I don't fancy being stranded on a desert island much so I would take a runway, a plane and a pilot with me!”

Who are your dream dinner party guests (maximum five)?

“Bruce Springsteen, Stephen King, Salma Hayek, Margaret Thatcher and Winston Churchill.”

How would you like to be remembered?

“As someone who left the world a tiny bit better than it was when I entered it.”
