WHILE Workington were crowned winners of the 2012 Premier League Pairs Championship held at Somerset's Oaktree Arena last Friday (August 24), it was once again to be a disappointing night for the home fans as for the sixth time of asking since the track first staged the prestigious event, the home duo failed to make it to the top step of the podium.
Jason Doyle and James Wright only just scraped into the semi-final stages after scoring 20 points from their four group heats, leaving the door open for Edinburgh to deny them a place in the last four.
In fact, it was only a last bend move by Sheffield's Richard Hall to pip the Monarch's Theo Pijper for third place in heat 20 that confirmed Somerset's place in the 'sudden death' semi-final stage of the competition.
The Rebels were eventually awarded third place overall.
