SOMERSET Rebels are hoping to come out on top in their crucial Premier League clash with Berwick Bandits this weekend after a mixed tour of Scotland.

The Rebels welcome basement side Berwick to the Oaktree Arena Friday night (August 17) as they look to keep up the pressure on league leaders Newcastle as the season heads into the home straight and qualification for the end of season play-offs looms.

Debbie Hancock, team promoter, said: “The team are on a high following their exploits over the weekend in bagging six points from their three-match Scottish tour and will be looking to maintain the pressure on Newcastle at the top of the table with us completing the 'double' over Berwick.”

Following a positive 48-42 result with Edinburgh Monarchs home last Wednesday, August 8, the Rebels embarked on their journey north to Scotland where they met the same side again on Friday, losing out 56-37.

Jason Doyle notched ten points and Sam Masters 9+1 but it wasn't enough for the visitors on a ground which hasn't given Rebels fans many happy memories.

A meeting with Berwick followed a day later, with the Rebels riders equalling the club's biggest away winning margin and collecting all four league points in the 60-35 victory.

Doyle again showed what a class rider he is with a 14+1 score to keep pressure on the league leaders.

And on the Rebels' last game of their Scottish tour on Sunday, Jason Doyle shone once more in a thrilling 45-45 tie with Glasgow.

Doyle scored 12+1, with Alex Davies also impressing with 10+2.
