SOMERSET Rebels brought down the curtain on their 2011 season - but not in the winning fashion that they had hoped.
The Rebels lost 47-43 to their rivals from across the River Severn, the Newport Wasps.
But it was the Rebels' that delivered a sting of their own in the opening four heats as they raced to a 16-8 lead following maximum wins in heats one and three.
Newport responded and ate away at that lead over the next four heats with 5-1 wins of their own in heats five and eight, to leave the teams tied at 24-24 just after the halfway point.
Alex Davies won heat 11 but the Rebels struggled to claw the two-point deficit back back.
The meeting was all but sealed when Newport won heat 13 with a maximum 5-1 win to take a six-point lead.
Heat 14 was tied 3-3 and despite the Rebels winning the last heat of the season 4-2, they still fell to a four-point defeat.
The club would like to thank all the supporters, sponsors, riders and committee members for a successful season.
