THE Somerset ‘Dickies’ Rebels arrived at Queensway Meadows on the back of a home win against the same opponents and the spectators looking forward to an exciting encounter weren’t disappointed.
But the Wasps’ Todd Kurtz proved the star of the show as his last two paid wins in Heats 12 and 14 proved the undoing of the Rebels in the final outcome, not only stopping them from taking a win, but also preventing a point going back to Highbridge at the final flag fall.
For the Rebels the undoubted hero was Cory Gathercole, whose return to form after a few quiet meetings, was as welcome as it was stunning. Gathercole has been struggling a little in the Elite League for Swindon, but he came back with a huge bang on last night.
The Rebels are due to return to the Oak Tree Arena tonight (Monday) for their lived televised clash with the Glasgow Tigers in front of the Sky cameras.
