Rare chance to catch riders at Rebels' anniversary meet

PLANS are rapidly coming together for Somerset Rebel’s ten-year anniversary meeting, which will open the club’s season on March 19.

It could also be one of the few occasions fans will get to see the next confirmed rider appearing in the UK in 2010, Lee Richardson.

Richardson has been left on the sidelines without a club for the forthcoming season, and so his appearance at the Oak Tree Arena in Highbridge for Somerset’s celebration meeting is all the more of a coup for the Rebel promotion.

“We are really excited to have Lee lining up,” said Somerset promoter Debbie Hancock. “He is a rider of undoubted quality, being Britain’s record points scorer in the World Cup, and a former World under 21 champion.”

Richardson joins Hans Andersen, Mark Lemon, Charlie Gjedde and Niels-Kristian Iversen as confirmed starters for what already promises to be a mouth-watering line up, but Richardson may not be the only rider appearing who will not be a regular in British Speedway in 2010.

She said: “If things all go to plan then Lee could be joined by another four riders who will not be riding for a British club this year, so their appearance at the Oak Tree Arena could well be one of the few opportunities to see these riders competing in the UK.

“At this stage I obviously cannot say who those riders will be until we receive full confirmation that they will be competing, but all I will say is that if all the riders we have invited to take part in the meeting accept, then it will be the best line up of riders ever seen at the Oak Tree Arena, which is our way of thanking the fans for their superb support of the Rebels over the past ten years.”
