Rye House Rockets 60 (3), Somerset Rebels 30 (0)

THE ‘Cases’ Somerset Rebels' visit to Rye House was not a happy one, as the Rebels left Hertfordshire on the back of a heavy defeat, writes Ian Belcher.

Things started promisingly enough for Somerset, only trailing the Rockets by four points after the first six heats, but any hopes the Rebels had of taking something from this match quickly disappeared.

Rye House hit home five maximum heat wins over the course of the next six heats to put themselves into an unassailable 24-point lead with just three heats remaining.

With skipper Josh Grajczonek having a rare off-night for Somerset, Richard Lawson’s three heat wins were the only highlights on what was an extremely gloomy night for the Rebels, the defeat all but ending their faint hopes of a place in the end of season play-offs.

Somerset team manager Garry May said: “From being in it after the opening six heats, Rye House just stepped things up a gear, to which we had no real answer.

“To be honest, there is little else I can say, as the score chart speaks for itself.

"Credit to Rye House though, they did what they needed to do in order to keep their play-off hopes alive, but we will be looking to turn the tables on them when they visit our place for the return fixture on Friday night.”
