CRICKET: Closing date for umpires and scorers courses this Friday

THIS winter the Somerset Cricket Board will be running both umpires’ and scorers’ courses as part of it’s County Board Education Programme.

Both the umpires and scorers courses are suitable for complete beginners, for those who wish to obtain a formal qualification for their services or for existing officials who just want to improve their skills.

The SCB will be running two courses for Umpires, one at the Centre of Excellence in Taunton and the other at Weston super Mare Cricket Club.

The cost of the course is £70 per and includes all tuition and resources, Tom Smith’s Umpiring and Scoring book, certification on completion of the assessment and 12 months free membership of the England Cricket Board Association of Cricket Officials (ECBACO).

The dates for the umpires’ courses are: Taunton on January 16, 23, 30 and February 6 between 6 and 9pm; Weston on February 26 and March 4 and 11 between noon and 6pm.

The scorers course will be run at the Centre of Excellence in Taunton, the cost of which is £50 per candidate and includes all course tuition, resources, Tom Smith’s Umpiring and Scoring book, certification on completion of the assessment and 12 months free membership of ECBACO.

The scorers course will take place between 6pm and 9pm on January 18 and February 1, 8,15, 22 and 29 between 6pm and 9pm.

Anybody wishing to book a place on any of the courses should either complete and return the application form that has been sent to all clubs in the county along with a cheque for the appropriate amount, made payable to the Somerset Cricket Board.
