JOS Buttler hit 87 off 46 balls to secure Somerset a place in the Clydesdale Bank 40 semi-final after a win over Surrey.

Buttler was the chief architect of Somerset's 290-6 from 36 overs, after rain had forced the match to be shortened. He was assisted by Craig Kieswetter, who hit 79, and Zander de Bruyn, 54.

Chasing a revised target of 292 Surrey suffered an early blow and found themselves on 23-2. Mark Ramprakash hit 73 and found assistance from Matt Spriegel, who hit 48 not out, but Alfonso Thomas, Pete Trego, Murali Kartik and de Bruyn each took two wickets to see Surrey all out for 227 with four overs left to bat.

Somerset have two group games left in the group stages of the competition and have already guaranteed that their semi-final will be in Taunton.
