SOMERSET’S eight T20 home games have helped swell the county’s coffers.
Chief executive Richard Gould said: “While it hasn’t been replicated up and down the country, our crowds have been excellent and we’ve smashed all records.
“The income will be reinvested in the cricket team – that’s why we’re able to bring in such players Kieron Pollard and keep others like Kieswetter, Trescothick and Hildreth. It gives us a real advantage over other clubs.”
Gould praised the spectators who turned out at the County Ground.
“They are utterly unique – we’ve had good sized crowds with a wonderful, enjoyable and bubbly atmosphere and no friction at all,” he said.
“The players have picked up on that and have commented on how much they enjoy playing in front of the home crowds.”
Somerset have been the only county this season to see a rise in crowd numbers at T20 games.
Various reasons have been cited, ranging from the World Cup to spectators being tired of T20 cricket.
