Somerset CCC groundsman Phil Frost made redundant

SOMERSET’S head groundsman Phil Frost has been made redundant after 22 years in his post at the County Ground.

During his time with the club, Frost who hails from Wellington, has won many accolades for including the coveted Groundsman of the Year Award on several occasions.

He has had a long association with Somerset and first joined the ground staff straight from school.

Frost left Somerset in 1983 to become a mobile groundsman with the local authority, but returned to the County Ground to take overall charge of preparing the wickets in 1988.

A brief statement issued by the club on Friday said: “Somerset County Cricket Club have confirmed that head groundsman Phil Frost has left the club after 22 years service at the County Ground.”

"Somerset have confirmed that Mr Frost has left their employ after a redundancy process which has taken place during the winter, in order to identify cost effectiveness and improve efficiency at the Club.

"One other member of staff at Somerset CCC was also made redundant over the Christmas period."
