THE announcement that Cameron White will be returning to the County Ground for this season’s Twenty20 Cup competition appears to have given the Somerset membership campaign a huge boost.
Last Thursday and Friday, just after news of White’s signing broke, office staff were hit by an surge in membership applications, suggesting fans are desperate to more of the explosive batting produced by the all-rounder in 2006 and 2007.
Few who were present to witness his unbeaten 116 in the opening Twenty20 match of the 2006 season against Gloucestershire will ever forget it.
The 26-year-old helped Somerset post 250-3, which was world record.
By the close of the day on Friday the number of members who had signed up for the coming season was well over 2,000 which amounted to an income of £230,000 – well ahead of this time last year.
Discounted membership rates, which expire on January 29, can be obtained by calling 0845-3371845 during office hours or by logging onto somersetcountycc.co.uk
