SOMERSET have re-signed big-hitting Australian Cameron White, writes Richard Walsh.
The 26-year-old Victorian, who was a huge hit as the Cidermen’s overseas player in 2006 and 2007, will play for the county in the domestic Twenty20 competition.
Under new T20 rules, counties can field two overseas players, which means White can line up alongside Indian spinner Murali Kartik.
White, who set a T20 world record by hitting 141 against Worcestershire in 2006, will be available for “six or seven” matches, subject to his international commitments.
Brian Rose, the Somerset director of cricket, said: “We have an agreement for Cameron White to play for Somerset subject to the international fixture list and his availability in 2010.
“He looks likely to be available to play for us for the first six or seven Twenty20 games, subject to permission from Cricket Australia and a work permit, but we don’t anticipate that being a problem.
“To have Cameron White as well as Murali Kartik in the same team is almost a dream combination. You have got a top class striker of a cricket ball, who can also bowl leg spin and an international left arm spinner with a great one day record at the other end.”
Rose added: “Cameron really enjoyed the two years he spent here and is looking forward to coming back.”
