ENGLAND captain Joe Root has confirmed that Somerset spin bowler Dom Bess will make his Test debut against Pakistan at Lord's tomorrow.

Speaking to Test Match Special, Root said that 20-year-old Bess will make his England bow in the first Test, which runs from May 24-28.

"He knows what he wants to do and how he wants to go about his business," Root said

"He's full of confidence. He's got a lot of energy and he's very switched on. He has a good idea of his own game and how he wants to go about things."

Bess is the third Somerset bowler to be given an England debut in the last six months, following in the footsteps of Craig Overton and Jack Leach.

And he told the County Gazette that he was determined not to let this opportunity be a "one-off".

The spinner is set to play alongside former Somerset player Jos Buttler, the 27-year-old from Wedmore having received a recall to the Test side after an 18-month absence.
