JAMES Hildreth scored a battling century on day three of the Specsavers County Championship clash between Somerset and Lancashire, but it wasn't enough to prevent his side from following on after the hosts were bowled out for 313.

James Anderson (3-72) hit form in time for England's forthcoming Test series against Sri Lanka with three wickets in five balls, seeing off home captain Chris Rogers (55), Roelof van der Merwe and Peter Trego in the same over as Lancashire moved into position to push for their second win in as many matches in Division One season.

Hildreth's 130, Rogers' first championship half-century for his new club and 51 down the order from Jamie Overton made Lancashire work hard to bowl Somerset out for 313 - with Simon Kerrigan also taking three for 63.

Following on 180 behind, after Hildreth was last out having hit 15 fours from 204 balls, Somerset closed on nought without loss from one over played out by nightwatchman Tim Groenewald.
