SOMERSET all-rounder Jim Allenby is back in full training after undergoing ankle surgery at the end of last season, and looking forward to joining up with Pakistan Super League franchise, Peshawar Zalmi in February.

Allenby, who recently became a father, flew back to Perth in October where he underwent surgery on an ankle injury that had been troubling him for part of the season.

But 33-year-old says he is well on the road to full recovery and all set for his Super League debut.

Allenby said: “Everything is going very well and I can’t complain at all.

“I am really enjoying being a Dad and certainly not finding myself short of things to do about the house since our little boy arrived.

“Everything has gone very well and we are a very happy family.

“My recovery is going very well - the operation I had was a bit more than I anticipated, but it was all sorted early in October after which I had a month when I couldn’t do anything because it was in a cast.

“However, over the last three weeks or so I have managed to get back to almost full training.

“I have had a bit of a bowl, I have been batting for a few weeks and I am now running so I am probably further on with my training than I would normally be at this stage of things.

“Hopefully it keeps going along the way it is, because it was pretty sore last season, that’s for sure.”

Allenby will travel to Dubai later this month to join up with his Peshawar Zalmi teammates, who are coached by former England head coach, Andy Flower – and admits he was a ‘surprised’ to have been selected.

“I’m off to play in the 2016 Pakistan Super League that is based in Dubai and Sharjah,” he said.

“So I will be going there in time for the first game which is on February 4.

“I must admit that I was surprised to get picked up to be honest, but I did and now I’m looking forward to it.

“Andy Flower is the assistant coach so I’m guessing my involvement has come through him which I’m pretty excited about.

“The timing of the tournament in Dubai couldn’t have come better for me the way that things have worked out.

“I’ll play for a couple of weekends out here in Perth before I go over to Dubai, where I think that the tournament will be of a pretty high quality because, there aren’t many non-international players involved in it.

“The standard in the Pakistan League will be high and it will give me three weeks in Dubai, in a really important part of pre-season to play T20 cricket.

“I will also be able to work with Andy Flower and the other coaches out there on my four day cricket, as well in some great facilities, so it’s not only exciting to get to play in the tournament, but also to get to work with some world class coaches, in addition to what we have at Somerset.”
