WICKETKEEPER Ryan Davies says he is raring to get his Somerset career underway, but for the time being, has his sights firmly set on the Under-19 World Cup in Bangladesh, which gets under way later this month.

Somerset’s newest recruit, Davies was signed from Kent in the autumn and joined up with his new teammates at the County Ground, earlier this week.

But the gloveman’s stay was only a brief one, as he prepares to fly out to Bangladesh later this week, with the rest of the England squad – and the 19-year-old said his first impressions of Taunton have been positive.

Davies said: “It’s a bit strange because I have spent all of my career so far with Kent, so it's good to have the chance to spend a day at the County Ground before I go away, so it has been really exciting.

“I have been very impressed by what I have seen and it is a proper professional set up down here, which is the main reason why I moved here because I like what this club is all about and where it is going.

"It has been brilliant getting involved with all of the lads today and having the chance to look around - it has been great."

Davies has had an action-packed winter so far, with trips to Dubai and Sri Lanka before Christmas, and insists he will ‘certainly be ready’ for the 2016 domestic season.

“Leading up to Christmas, I was in Sri Lanka with the England Under-19s and before that I was lucky enough to go out to Dubai and work with Bruce French and the Lions, which was a brilliant experience,” he said.

“I am off again on Thursday morning with the Under-19s for the World Cup, so it has been pretty full on for me recently, but I will certainly be ready for the new season when it comes around.”

“I think I have a week off when I return from Bangladesh and then I am straight off to Desert Springs with the rest of the Somerset squad for the pre-season training camp.

"I have never been on a pre-season tour before so I am really looking forward to that and it will also give me the chance to get to know that lads who haven’t been around so far.”

The youngster knows there will be nerves ahead of making his Somerset debut, but says he is ready for the challenge ahead.

“I will probably be a little bit nervous, just like it was when I first did it for Kent,” he said.

“But it will probably be more so here, because I am with new people and there are new expectations, but I am really excited about it and it will be a whole new experience for me.

"It’s going to be tough but I am really looking forward to it.”
