SOMERSET look like having to be without the services of Craig Overton for the next week after the 21-year-old was struck on the helmet whilst batting against Sussex at the County Ground on Tuesday.

Coming in at number seven to see off the hat-trick ball from Steve Magoffin, with the score on 200 for six, in reply to the Sussex total of 208, the youngster hit two huge sixes and had just reached his half century when he was struck on the head by a delivery from Michael Hobden.

Director of Cricket Matt Maynard said: “We will be without Craig Overton who suffered a nasty blow to the head batting on Tuesday and although he felt quite good after batting through the day he actually started to feel drowsy so we are going to follow the concussion protocol now and see how he is in a week’s time.

“Craig has bowled very well for us this season and consistently hit good areas and also showed his capabilities with the bat so we will miss him.”

The former Academy all rounder remained unbeaten on 53 as Somerset were all out for 274, which included 81 from Pete Trego and 82 by James Hildreth, the fifth wicket pair adding 163 together.

Batting for a second time Sussex eventually declared on 468 for four, leaving Somerset needing 425 to win.
