NORTH Petherton continued their winning streak away to Withycombe on Saturday.
Although Pethy started the better of the two teams, it was the home side that scored first with a penalty.
This got Pethy going and they scored from a well-worked move finished off by centre Chris Burge, not converted.
The home side was constantly infringing and offside, causing the game to become stop start and neither team could get much pattern to their game.
Just before half time, the home side scored a well-taken try, created by their elusive scrum half and finished by their second row.
Pethy got a couple of scoring opportunities, but only could come away with a Sam Williams penalty and a Matt Brown try, which Sam - on his birthday- converted well. At half time the score was 15 - 10.
Captain Matt Angel scored a try from a driving maul, but the majority of the second half continued with the home side conceding penalty after penalty.
The visitors scored two break away tries - one after a chip and the other from a quick tap.
Between Withycombe's two tries, super sub James Lees restored Pethy's 12-point lead with a short-range try, which came after a 20m rolling maul that crossed the line, but wasn't grounded clearly for the ref to see. Sam converted.
The whole team got stuck into a very frustrating match, on a heavy-going pitch. Adams got ball-in-hand on several occasions and ran hard and fast, while Foad tackled well, mopped up and kept possession of the slow ball the backs were often receiving.
The forwards worked hard and would have scored several push over tries if their top rolling mauls were not disrupted from all angles.
