NORTH Petherton went to Tavistock on Saturday looking for their first win in four games, writes Luke Williams.
They started the better of the two teams with both the forwards and the backs causing the home side trouble.
North Petherton opened the scoring through Simon Ranson’s try after good work from the pack. Tom Williams missed the conversion, although he did add a penalty later in the half.
Tavistock’s first half try came from a simple move and two missed tackles within the visitor’s 22. The try was converted, making the score 7-8 at the half time break.
North Petherton continued their dominance in the second half but struggled to score. Tom Williams was having an off day with the boot, struggling both with an injury and lack of a suitable tee.
He did eventually slot one penalty to put Petherton back in the lead. Tavistock were next to score after a break away deep in their own 22 metres, which was well finished and converted to bring the score to 14-11.
North Petherton’s Craig Goodwin finished of a well-worked move from the backs and Sam Williams scored after the forwards pushed their way over from a 5-metre lineout.
Neither tries were converted, which left for a nail-biting finish as Tavistock threw everything they had to get the score as Petherton seemed to turn over the ball every few minutes.
Many thanks to Tavistock for their hospitality, as those players and supporters who remained behind to watch the international were well looked after.
