Match report: North Petherton II 10, St Bernadettes Old Boys 80 Match report: North Petherton II 10, St Bernadettes Old Boys 80

NORTH Petherton were overwhelmed by Somerset One leaders St Bernadettes on a forgettable afternoon for the home side, writes Matt Glanville.

Taking to the field for the first time in four weeks, Pethy began poorly and only showed glimpses of what they are capable of, while Bernadettes looked a class above throughout, scoring regularly and dominating in all facets of the game.

While the second string were up against a better side, that should not excuse a poor opening 20 minutes during which they failed to get going, conceding the game with an array of mistakes and missed tackles.

After a slow start, the hosts briefly responded with a penalty midway through the first half to make it 3-19 following some good attacking play.

The home side did then manage to up their game in fits and starts, finishing the first half strongly with sustained pressure on the Bernadette’s try-line, forcing the visitors into repeated infringements at the ruck and resulting in two yellow cards in quick succession.

After the break the Bernadettes showed their class to run away with the game while Pethy could only score a consolation try through Mark Cox.

Petherton travel to Old Reds on Saturday (February 9).
