South West One (W)
North Petherton 56, Cullompton 27

NORTH Petherton finished their season in style with an eight-try rout of Cullompton that keeps them in fifth place in South West One (W).

Mac Taylor was first on the scoresheet, breaking through the defence to touch down, and Arron Gibbs soon barged his way over for the second.

Invention brought about the next try as a kick from winger Harry Auton was gathered and finished by Damian Griffin, and Taylor’s second try then secured the bonus point as he picked up a pass from prop Dan Morgan.

Jack Coles and Carl Brown went over before Eryk Luczka added a fine individual try, running in from well within the Pethy half, and Auton completed the scoring by sprinting over late on.

Hooker Sam Williams had an impeccable afternoon with the boot, converting all eight tries to see his side to a comprehensive victory in an exciting game, with the Devon side more than playing their part.

A fifth-placed finish would be a new best for the club at this level, though they will drop down a place if Okehampton beat Keynsham on Saturday.

Teignmouth 32, Bridgwater & Albion 29

BRIDGWATER & Albion made the trip to South Devon for their final league match of the season, where after producing another excellent performance they were denied a draw by a penalty in the 53rd minute of the second half, writes Richard Walsh.

The hosts started strongly and and were rewarded when fly-half Lidstone scored and converted their opening try.

Albion responded quickly to level things up following a George Sluman steal and a move involving Ollie Dunn, before Rob Gurnett went over for a try which Stuart Heal converted.

Full-back Will Monro produced a number of fine runs and on 20 minutes one resulted in the ball finding Tom Fournier, who passed to Ryan Barnett to go over for an unconverted try and put Albion in front.

Teignmouth came straight back from the re-start and made it 12-12 when centre Sowden took advantage of an Albion mistake before releasing Smith to score.

On half an hour Brad Talbot made a good break that resulted in a penalty which Heal slotted home.

The home side, who were powerful in midfield throughout, started the second half strongly and on 50 minutes Jake Burt scored a try that Lidstone converted.

Teignmouth then extended their lead five minutes later with a try from Sowden, Lidstone adding the extras, to make it 25-15.

Despite trailing by 10 points the Albion continued to attack and following another searing run by Monro he linked well with Gurnett, who offloaded to Talbot to touch down between the posts, Devitt converting.

On 72 minutes Teignmouth were awarded a penalty that Lidstone kicked to make the score 29-22, in response to which Albion attacked from deep within their own half, a move that resulted in Ethan Trebble-Westlake scoring a try which Devitt converted.

The game looked to be ending in a draw, but deep into overtime Teignmouth were awarded a penalty which Lidstone slotted over to give his side the narrowest of victories, 32-29.
