Cleve 25, North Petherton 6

PETHERTON were toppled by league leaders Cleve who deservedly ran out victorious, writes Simon Freeman.

The home side's defence withstood numerous attacks but ultimately held the edge, showing why they have a 100% record ten games into the season.

Cleve started the stronger and placed themselves in attacking positions from the start with Petherton defending wave after wave of attacks.

The home side plucked away until the tenth minute when their no 8 barged his way over to start off the scoring.

Petherton responded skilfully and counter attacked with enterprise and were rewarded through a Harry Roberts Penalty to reduce the deficit.

This reinvigorated the home side who looked after the ball and kept possession confidently and extended the lead through a penalty.

Petherton attacked using all channels but came up against a strong defensive unit who turrned over the ball and returned the counter attack to score a converted try just before half time to make it 15-3.

The second half saw some excellent defending from both teams but the home side secured the first score with another penalty.

The visitors threw caution and attacked from their own half to create an opportunity for Roberts to close the gap again, which he duly did.

Petherton slightly gained the ascendency but were unable to score again against a strong, organised team.

The game was finally over when Cleve's number 8 went over for his second try, which was converted.
