THERE was not much to cheer about for the home supporters as Bridgwater finished their 2011/12 season with their second largest defeat of the year, writes David Pomeroy.

Bridgwater made a good initial start playing with the strong wind, but their poor tackling allowed the first try from Dom Gosling after five minutes.

From the re-start, Bridgwater had virtually no possession and a Redingensians try for Swadling followed six minutes after the first.

Injuries dominated Bridgwater’s game as Dan Kemmish went to hospital needing stitches to a cut lip, within 15 minutes of the start of the match (replaced by Dale Walker) and, at 18 minutes, Rob Allen took a knock to the head and was replaced by Rich Willis.

Despite the injuries, the next 20 minutes proved to be Bridgwater’s strongest part of the match and play stayed in Redingensians’ half for most of this time but, despite Bridgwater pressure and several handling errors, Bridgwater could not get across the line.

At 33 minutes, Joe Bussell sustained a wrist injury and was replaced by Gavin Knight before Redingensians scored again to make the half-time score 0-26.

In the second half, Bridgwater were playing into the wind and found it hard going as Redingensians ran in nine more tries to round off a disappointing day for Albion.

Bridgwater will now look forward to a break before re-grouping later in the year for their assault on the South West 1 Division.
