NEW head coach Kevin Innalls has said his main aim at the helm will be to move Bridgwater and Albion Rugby Club forward over the coming months.
Speaking to Bridgwater Mercury's Daniel Milligan following their 22-15 defeat to Old Patesians, Innalls said he is going to remain realistic over the club's hopes of survival this season.
He said: “We are in a difficult situation and it is not going to be easy but if we can get numbers in training and push the lads to play the way we want to then there is always a chance of surviving.
“At this level small mistakes can be costly and we made a few errors. We have had low numbers at training so we need people to get to training so we can improve and start to turn things around.
“If we had put into place what we have working on in training then we could have won, but I am going to take the positives and I did see some improvements.
“The first 10-15 minutes we were camped on our own line but we kept battering away and the determination of the players was good to see because in other games this season we could have capitulated.”
Innalls, 47, has been involved at the club since a youngster where he played in the mini's teams at 11, before moving on to the Colts side and then 200 caps as hooker for the first team.
He then worked as defensive coach under Nick Hill before leaving the coaching scene for the first part of this season.
Innalls said he wants to see the atmosphere at the club buzzing again despite their relegation predicament.
He said: “I want to bring an enjoyable brand of rugby to the club so that more fans will come back and support the team and we can slowly start to move the club in the right direction again.
“We have to start from the bottom but we have a good set of coaches in Matt Hastie, Darren Crompton and Geoff Sluman and we have to move forward.
“We have been working hard to make training enjoyable for the lads and anyone that wants to pop down is more than welcome even if they haven't played for the club before.
“I just have the club's interest at heart and just want to see the club do well, be successful and move forward.”
