SOMERSET Youth and Community Sailing Association are completing their third year of free sailing tasters for local Primary Schools.

More than 300 youngsters from nine schools will have taken part in the sessions, which were held at Durleigh Sailing Club on Durleigh Reservoir.

During the event, each day presented a new set of weather conditions, varying from sunny and warm to very wet, cold and windy, which made the conditions challenging.

Pete Branson, chairman of the association, said: “Despite the wet weather and sometimes very difficult conditions, all the youngsters had a wonderful time.

“Their smiling faces and positive comments made it all worthwhile.”

l On Saturday, the association are holding their ‘Push the Boat Out’ day at Durleigh Sailing Club as part of the RYA’s Sail for Gold celebrations.

There will be games and competitions with an Olympic-style awards ceremony and it starts at 2pm.
